Wilkes-Barre Firefighters Keep $1M Pay Award

Law360, New York (March 23, 2010, 1:27 PM EDT) -- A Pennsylvania appeals court has upheld a $1 million arbitration award for Wilkes-Barre firefighters in a dispute over compensation, ruling that the city can't discredit pivotal testimony with evidence it failed to provide during the arbitration proceeding.

The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania refused to overturn the arbitration award Monday, finding that the trial court properly discounted a letter from the president of the firefighters' union that contradicted his testimony regarding the timeliness of the union’s grievance over pay increases the police department alone had received....
