Emerging Legislation: Stem Cell Research

Law360 (January 3, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- As Democrats take control of Congress Thursday, they are sure to revisit controversial stem-cell research legislation that continues to divide and will likely meet another presidential veto.

Less than a year after President Bush used his first presidential veto to block stem-cell research legislation, the Democrats have promised to introduce – and pass – a very similar measure.

Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, has vowed to make the issue a “high priority.”
