EPO Board of Appeals Upholds Powerline Broadband Patent

Law360, New York (June 9, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Patent Office Board of Appeal has rejected Siemen’s and ABB’s challenge to a 1994 patent held by the small U.S. company Amperion for a technology to deliver broadband internet access over the power grid.

The panel upheld Amperion's patent no. EPO756785 on final appeal after several challenges, upholding the opinions of the EPO's Opposition Division in declaring the patent to be both novel and inventive over all known prior art.
