US Wants WTO Panel On Philippine Alcohol Tax Spat

Law360, New York (March 29, 2010, 3:01 PM EDT) -- The United States has asked the World Trade Organization to establish a dispute settlement panel to hear its claims that Philippine excise taxes on distilled spirits discriminate against U.S.-made brands.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative said Friday that it was making the request after repeated attempts to resolve the issue through WTO consultations, including a session in Geneva on Feb. 23.
