Spokane Diocese Settles With Abuse Victims

Law360, New York (January 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a move that brings it closer to exiting from bankruptcy, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Spokane, Wash., has agreed to pay at least $48 million to settle child molestation charges.

The settlement, which was reached Thursday, comes after six months of mediation presided over by Judge Gregg W. Zive of Reno, Nev. Upon the deal’s completion, the diocese immediately filed its Chapter 11 reorganization plan with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington.
