Total SA Facing Renewed Oil-For-Food Probe In France

Law360, New York (April 6, 2010, 4:49 PM EDT) -- A French judge has placed French oil giant Total SA under formal investigation for its role in the scandal-ridden United Nations Oil-for-Food program, several months after prosecutors asked that the case be dismissed.

The company said in its annual report, released last week, that investigating magistrate Serge Tournaire had initiated the formal probe in February into allegations of bribery, complicity in corrupting foreign officials and influence peddling as part of the oil program.
