Offshore Drilling Threatens Fla. Economy: Dems

Law360, New York (April 7, 2010, 2:44 PM EDT) -- Three Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida have come out against President Barack Obama's decision to open the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastlines to offshore drilling, arguing that it could devastate the environment and the state’s economy.

Allowing oil and natural gas drilling could cut into the area's tourism and military industries, Reps. Alcee L. Hastings, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Corrine Brown said Tuesday in a letter to Obama.
