FDA Cracks Down On Spas' Lipodissolve Claims

Law360, New York (April 8, 2010, 1:14 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned six U.S. medical spas and a company in Brazil to remove false or misleading statements from their Web sites about a procedure called “lipodissolve” intended to eliminate fat.

The FDA said Wednesday that it had received reports of people who suffered adverse effects from the procedure, including permanent scarring, skin deformation, and deep, painful knots under the skin.
