Costa Rica, China Make Free Trade Agreement Official

Law360, New York (April 9, 2010, 2:14 PM EDT) -- The Costa Rican government has officially signed a free trade agreement with China, its second-largest trading partner.

Costa Rica’s Minister of Foreign Trade Marco Vinicio Ruiz and China’s Minister of Commerce Chen Deming signed the agreement Thursday in Beijing after six rounds of negotiations spanning 13 months, Costa Rica’s Ministry of Foreign Trade announced.

Ruiz said the agreement would give China access to 99.6 percent of Costa Rican exports — important, he said, considering China’s growing middle class.
