EU Opens Probe Into Chinese Subsidies For Paper

Law360, New York (April 19, 2010, 2:22 PM EDT) -- The European Commission has initiated an investigation into coated fine paper from the People's Republic of China following a protest by Europe's fine paper manufacturers, who allege that their Chinese rivals are advantaged by government subsidies.

Responding to a complaint lodged in March by CEPIFINE, the European association of fine paper manufacturers, the commission announced Saturday in the European Union's official journal that it would take up the case to determine the extent that the alleged subsidies, which include preferential lending schemes, tax exemptions, tariff exemptions...
