Uruguay Wins Pulp Mill Battle With Argentina

Law360, New York (April 20, 2010, 7:17 PM EDT) -- The International Court of Justice at The Hague has foiled Argentina's efforts to close a pulp mill on a river on its border with Uruguay, ruling that Argentina has not shown the plant to be environmentally destructive to the shared water resource.

Ruling 11-3 on Tuesday, the court determined that Uruguay had not breached its substantive obligations under the portions of a bilateral treaty between the two nations that govern development along the Uruguay River by building one paper mill and authorizing a second.
