New CPSC 3rd-Party Toy Safety Testers Include Mattel

Law360, New York (April 23, 2010, 5:39 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has certified four more product testing facilities to help apply stricter safety standards for children’s products, two of them belonging to Mattel Inc., despite the fact that the company’s own lapses spurred the reforms in the first place.

Voting unanimously Friday in favor of recognizing four more “firewalled” testing laboratories, officials at the CPSC found that the facilities, including the two Mattel labs, are able to provide superior consumer safety protection and are not compromised by “undue influence” from manufacturers...
