Philips Seeks WTO Ruling In Taiwan Patent Dispute

Law360, New York (January 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Philips Electronics, the Dutch electronics company, has called on the European Commission to help it obtain a World Trade Organization ruling in its patent standoff with Taiwan’s government.

Philips submitted a formal request to the Commission on Monday, sources close to Philips told the Financial Times.

By pulling the WTO into the dispute, Philips hopes to put pressure on Taiwan’s government to address foreign businesses’ complaints over its disregard of intellectual property rights.
