Austria Seeks Fines For Freight Shipping Cartels

Law360, New York (April 28, 2010, 2:58 PM EDT) -- Austria's competition watchdog has asked the country's cartel court to fine several freight shipping companies that allegedly agreed to fix prices and allocate customers as part of two cartels.

The Federal Competition Authority, or BWB, said Wednesday it had "very extensive ... evidence" showing that the two shipping cartels involving Speditions-Sammelladungs-Konferenz, a shipping industry group, represent "serious breaches" of the European Union's antitrust law.
