Grassley Pushes For Post-Market Drug Safety Measures

Law360, New York (April 29, 2010, 3:31 PM EDT) -- Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, is again urging Congress to give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration more power to monitor drugs' safety after they enter the market.

At a drug safety hearing Wednesday before the agriculture subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Grassley — who has twice introduced legislation on the subject — argued that FDA physicians and scientists committed to continued monitoring of drugs even after agency approval have sometimes been suppressed or simply ignored.
