Wash. Beef Plant Fined For CWA Violations

Law360, New York (May 5, 2010, 2:06 PM EDT) -- A Washington state beef-processing plant has agreed to shell out a $750,000 civil penalty and install $3 million worth of new wastewater treatment equipment to settle allegations that it violated the Clean Water Act by discharging slaughterhouse waste into the surrounding waterways.

The deal, which the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Tuesday, lays to rest a complaint the agencies filed concurrently with the settlement agreement in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington.
