ExxonMobil Fails On Appeal To Dismiss Aceh Suit

Law360, New York (January 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. has rejected ExxonMobil Corp.’s attempt to dismiss a drawn-out lawsuit filed on behalf of Indonesian villagers, who claim the energy giant was complicit in murder and torture by Indonesian soldiers under its control.

The decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia affirmed a lower court ruling that ExxonMobil—the world’s largest oil and gas company—must respond to claims stemming from its export activities in Indonesia’s tumultuous Aceh province.
