WHO to Endorse Triple-Dose Anti-HIV Generics

Law360 (October 25, 2003, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The World Health Organization will disclose its global strategy to bring down AIDS drug costs next week and will endorse generic triple-dose HIV drugs, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.

The endorsement is seen as controversial, since a distribution of generic drugs could violate a variety of patents, according to the newspaper.

One generic combination drug is already is being sold by an Indian company, and several others are in the pipeline, the newspaper reported.
