AIDS Group Sues Pfizer Over Viagra Ads

Law360 (January 22, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has filed a lawsuit against Pfizer Inc. alleging that the company encourages recreational use of its erectile dysfunction drug, Viagra, which has increased infections of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV and AIDS.

The suit, filed Monday in the Superior Court of the State of California, Los Angeles County, seeks an injunction prohibiting Pfizer from deceptive marketing, and forcing the company to immediately start an education campaign.

The suit also asks the court to order Pfizer to disgorge any ill-gotten gains, and to pay restitution to the non-profit for the money it has spent treating people infected with...
