Ark. Supreme Court Blocks $1.6B AEP Power Plant

Law360, New York (May 14, 2010, 5:38 PM EDT) -- The Arkansas Supreme Court has reversed a state environmental agency's decision to greenlight a $1.6 billion power plant being built by a unit of American Electric Power Co. Inc., finding that the agency failed to appropriately assess the state's need for the coal-fired plant.

The state high court on Thursday reversed and remanded the Arkansas Public Service Commission's approval of Southeastern Electric Power Co.'s 600-megawatt plant, which has been fought by a group of landowners.
