Sagent Recalls Anti-Infection Drug Over Contamination

Law360, New York (May 18, 2010, 3:04 PM EDT) -- Sagent Pharmaceuticals Inc. has recalled intravenous anti-microbial metronidazole — which is used to treat infections — over contamination concerns following the discovery of two lots of the drug that were not properly sterile.

The nationwide recall covers all lots of metronidazole injection 500 mg/100 ml, which is manufactured by Claris Lifesciences Ltd. and distributed by Sagent in a single-dose plastic container. Specialty injectables company Sagent said the recalled product was distributed to hospitals, wholesalers and other distributors around the U.S. from February to May.
