Russia Official Urges End To Jackson-Vanik Amendment

Law360, New York (May 18, 2010, 5:47 PM EDT) -- A high-ranking Russian official reportedly has said the U.S. must abolish the controversial Jackson-Vanik amendment soon because it continues to hinder trade.

RIA Novosti reported Tuesday that Sergei Ivanov, a Russian deputy prime minister, said it was time to abolish the amendment to the 1974 Trade Act, which, among other things, imposes trade restrictions on former Soviet countries. The amendment has long been a source of tension between the U.S. and Russia.
