Canada High Court To Hear Tobacco Liability Appeal

Law360, New York (May 20, 2010, 5:59 PM EDT) -- The Supreme Court of Canada agreed Thursday to hear a case over the federal government's liability in a suit British Columbia filed against a slew of major tobacco industry players to recoup billions of dollars in health care costs.

The high court granted a hearing to address cross-appeals from Canada and a group of tobacco company defendants challenging a December ruling that dragged the government back into the case as a defendant.
