UK Energy Bill Targets Carbon Emissions

Law360, New York (May 25, 2010, 2:53 PM EDT) -- The new coalition government in the U.K. has outlined a plan to improve energy efficiency in British homes and businesses, promote low-carbon energy production, and regulate carbon emissions.

In the Queen's Speech outlining its legislative priorities on Tuesday, the Conservative and Liberal Democratic coalition government said an energy bill with those aims would soon be introduced in Parliament.

In its published program for government, the coalition said it planned to implement a full program to support an economy that was “low-carbon and ecofriendly.”
