U.S. Senate Kills Minimum Wage Bill

Law360, New York (January 24, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- One of the newly liberal House of Representatives’ first initiatives, a bill that would raise the federal minimum wage with no tax cuts, was defeated Wednesday in the Senate.

With a 54-43 vote, the bill’s supporters just missed their mark. A mere six votes would have moved the bill closer to becoming a law that would raise minimum pay from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour nationwide.
