False Dietary Supplement Ads A Problem: FTC

Law360, New York (May 27, 2010, 4:31 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission needs to take a hard line on false advertising as the recession drives more consumers to dietary supplements, the agency told lawmakers who are considering a bill to supply it with more money to deal with the issue.

The sales of dietary supplements, including weight loss pills and cold remedies, stood at $25 billion last year, an increase of 6 percent over the previous year, the FTC told the Senate Special Committee on Aging on Wednesday.
