Gov't Workers Get Same-Sex Long-Term Health Care

Law360, New York (June 2, 2010, 11:34 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Office of Personnel Management has published a final regulation allowing same-sex partners of federal government employees to begin applying for long-term health care benefits July 1.

The OPM published the final regulation Tuesday in the Federal Register, expanding the definition of who can apply for coverage to include same-sex domestic partners of federal workers, U.S. postal workers and government retirees. President Barack Obama first proposed extending long-term care benefits in June 2009, and the OPM proposed regulations in September.
