Bayer Ends Rice Importer's Contamination Suit For $6M

Law360, New York (June 4, 2010, 2:18 PM EDT) -- Bayer AG has agreed to pay $5.8 million to settle a case brought by rice processor and exporter Riviana Foods Inc., which claimed Bayer's genetically modified rice contaminated crops that made it into Riviana's overseas exports.

The two filed a joint motion to dismiss the case Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, where multidistrict litigation over the alleged contamination has been consolidated.

The case is Bayer's first settlement in the MDL and provides most of what Riviana was asking for,...
