Enviros Claim Wash. Dam Spill Laws Threaten Salmon

Law360, New York (June 4, 2010, 3:59 PM EDT) -- Fishing groups have joined with conservationists in a suit that accuses Washington state's water quality regulator of failing to protect endangered salmon by refusing to allow beneficial water releases over dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers.

The groups sued Wednesday in the Superior Court of the State of Washington, Thurston County, saying the Washington State Department of Ecology's water laws, which restrict spillover from the dam, prevent salmon and steelhead from migrating to the Pacific Ocean.
