Md. Fines Poultry Plant $1M For Safety Violations

Law360, New York (June 7, 2010, 7:38 PM EDT) -- An Eastern Shore poultry processor has been fined more than $1 million for safety violations in what Maryland authorities say is the largest penalty the state's occupational safety and health inspectors have ever assessed.

The penalty against Allen Family Foods Inc. of Seaford, Del., resulted from an inspection the labor department made at Allen's Hurlock, Md., facility after a Dec. 10 incident in which an employee was seriously hurt reaching beneath an unguarded conveyor belt.
