Law360, New York (June 8, 2010, 7:14 PM EDT) -- Louisiana lawmakers are considering legislation that would allow the state's attorney general to hire lawyers on a contingency basis, a move supporters say is necessary to level the playing field during the expected onslaught of litigation against BP PLC in connection with the Deepwater Horizon rig disaster.
The bill, SB 731, was approved by a 21-16 vote in the state Senate on Monday. It has been referred to the House Committee on Civil Law and Procedure, according to the state's website.
