Germany Hits Lens Maker Cartel With €115M Fine

Law360, New York (June 11, 2010, 3:35 PM EDT) -- Germany's competition watchdog has slapped five ophthalmic lens manufacturers, seven of their employees and the country's Central Association of Optometrists with fines totaling €115 million ($139 million) for allegedly engaging in cartel agreements.

The Bundeskartellamt named Rodenstock GmbH in Munich, Carl Zeiss Vision GmbH in Aalen, Essilor GmbH in Freiburg, Rupp+Hubrach Optik GmbH in Bamberg and Hoya Lens Deutschland GmbH in Mullheim when it disclosed the fines for price-fixing on Thursday.
