Tenn. Slaps TVA With $11.5M Fine Over 2008 Ash Spill

Law360, New York (June 14, 2010, 5:56 PM EDT) -- Tennessee environmental regulators hit the Tennessee Valley Authority with an $11.5 million fine Monday over the December 2008 spill that released a billion-gallon coal ash avalanche and warned that the company could still face further penalties.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation ordered TVA to pay the penalties in several $2 million installments over the next two years under the state's Water Quality Control Act and Solid Waste Disposal Act.
