Piracy, Counterfeiting Cost $100B A Year: WIPO

Law360, New York (January 30, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Delegates meeting at the third global congress on combating counterfeiting and piracy Tuesday hailed increased international cooperation but called for an even greater marshalling of efforts and resources to protect intellectual property rights.

Top government officials, business leaders, and international law enforcement officials are convening on Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 in Geneva for the high-level gathering, hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization.

WIPO said counterfeiting and piracy cost the global economy at least $100 billion every year, according to AFX News.
