EU Extends Probe Into $160M Syngenta, Monsanto Deal

Law360, New York (June 22, 2010, 6:47 PM EDT) -- The European Commission has opened an extended probe into Syngenta AG's $160 million offer to buy Monsanto Co.'s hybrid sunflower seed business after its initial investigation raised competition concerns.

The European Union's antitrust watchdog said Monday the deal could create competition issues in the areas of breeding and commercialization of sunflower seeds and sunflower seed treatment products in Europe.
