Russia Bids To Limit Access To Energy Projects

Law360, New York (January 31, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Russian government on Wednesday tentatively gave the green light to draft legislation aimed at restricting the access of foreign companies to the country’s “strategic” oil and gas fields.

Under the draft law, foreign investors would need special permission from an intergovernmental committee – comprising sector insiders and officials from the Federal Security Service – to invest in over 40 sectors of the economy, including the energy sector, AFX News reported, citing Russian news agencies.
