Judge Says Parmalat Can't Unify Cases

Law360, New York (January 31, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- An Italian judge on Wednesday said he would not let Parmalat SpA consolidate three lawsuits against the dairy company and its subsidiaries into a case that would have brought as many as 100 defendants into one trial.

Judge Domenico Truppa sided with prosecutors who argued a single trial would have slowed down the main criminal proceedings against Calisto Tanzi, Parmalat’s founder and one-time chief executive, according to news reports.
