Wash. Barge Terminal Sued Over Stormwater Discharges

Law360, New York (June 24, 2010, 5:45 PM EDT) -- The Puget Soundkeeper Alliance has accused marine transportation company Alaska Marine Lines Inc. of violating its pollutant discharge permit by allowing excess amounts of stormwater and other contaminants to flow into the Duwamish River.

The company has failed to fulfill monitoring, record-keeping, reporting and planning requirements necessary for compliance with its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit and the Clean Water Act, the conservation group alleges in a complaint filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
