Spain May Blockade Non-E.U. Energy Monopolies

Law360, New York (February 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Spain may be on its way to restricting access to its gas market for non-European Union companies, a move that would target energy supply monopolies such as Russia’s Gazprom and Algeria’s Sonatrach.

The Spanish government is deciding on whether or not to implement restrictive measures on non-E.U. member countries if they refuse to grant foreign firms access to their markets, Spanish newspaper Expansión reported Thursday.
