Asyst Wins $75M Patent Verdict

Law360, New York (February 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal jury has awarded $74.7 million to Asyst Technologies Inc., which accused rival tech company Jenoptik AG of infringing the patent on its Smart Traveler system.

The verdict, which was handed down Wednesday, would have been the fifth largest patent verdict of 2006 had it been issued that year, according to Fenwick & West LLP, which represents Asyst.

“I’m very pleased with the result,” said Fenwick attorney Darryl Woo. “I think the company was very innovative at the time, and this basically validates the innovation.”...
