Kagan Tries To Allay Fears Of Judicial Activism

Law360, New York (June 30, 2010, 7:34 PM EDT) -- Lawmakers used Elena Kagan's confirmation hearings Wednesday as a platform to denounce judicial activism, prompting the nominee to vow repeatedly that she would not bring her personal political agenda into the courtroom.

“As a judge, you are on nobody's team. You are an independent actor,” Kagan said. “When you get to the bench, when you put on the robe, your only master is the rule of law ... regardless of what administration you worked for in the past.”
