Canada Orders Divestitures In $370M Waste Co. Deal

Law360, New York (July 1, 2010, 2:31 PM EDT) -- Canada's antitrust regulator has agreed to sign off on IESI-BFC Ltd.'s $370 million deal to take over its Canadian rival Waste Services Inc., as long as Waste Services divests commercial waste collection assets in five Canadian cities.

In order to secure approval for the all-stock transaction, which would form the third-largest solid-waste management firm in North America, Waste Services will divest commercial waste collection assets including customer contracts, vehicles, bins and other equipment in Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta and Hamilton, Ottawa and Simcoe County in...
