EU Moves Closer To Universal Patent System

Law360, New York (July 1, 2010, 5:07 PM EDT) -- The European Commission submitted a proposal outlining a translation scheme for a pan-European patent system to the European Council on Thursday, bringing the European Union one step closer to its 30-year old goal of a universal patent.

The proposal was transmitted to the council and the European Parliament for adoption, but in order for it to be adopted, the council must act unanimously after consulting the Parliament.
