Spain Launches New Antitrust Probe Of Iberdrola

Law360, New York (July 2, 2010, 1:22 PM EDT) -- Spain's antitrust regulator decided Friday to investigate whether Iberdrola SA engaged in unfair competition by failing to get its customers' consent to remain their electricity provider when a new law gave them a chance to switch utilities.

The National Competition Commission opened disciplinary proceedings against Iberdrola and several of its units based on a complaint from Gas Natural SDG SA, known as Gas Natural Fenosa, claiming that the Bilbao-based Iberdrola Group violated two articles of Spain's competition law.
