US Urges China To Release Jailed Geologist

Law360, New York (July 6, 2010, 4:32 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of State expressed concern Tuesday over a Chinese court's sentencing of an American geologist to eight years in prison for allegedly gathering information on the country's oil industry, saying that the department will continue to press the issue with Chinese officials.

State Department spokesman Mark Toner said that the U.S. remained “extremely concerned” about geologist Xue Feng's right to due process under Chinese law.
