Obama Sues Ariz. Over Immigration Law

Law360, New York (July 6, 2010, 4:39 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration filed a lawsuit Tuesday to stop Arizona's controversial Senate Bill 1070, the state's strict new immigration law.

Immigration is within the federal government's domain, Assistant Attorney General Tony West said in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.

The federal government also filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to delay the planned July 29 implementation of the law.
