Medical Groups Seek Action On Device Tracking Rule

Law360, New York (July 8, 2010, 4:18 PM EDT) -- A coalition of prominent hospital, physician, research and patient advocacy organizations is pressing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to immediately release a proposed rule that would lay the groundwork for a unique device identification system for medical devices.

The Advancing Patient Safety Coalition wrote to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg on Wednesday to urge the agency to underscore the urgency of completing and finalizing a draft rule on the nationwide UDI system for medical devices, which has been under construction for more than three years....
