MSHA Defends WVa Mine Tour From Massey Criticism

Law360, New York (July 9, 2010, 3:50 PM EDT) -- The Mine Safety and Health Administration has fired back at Massey Energy Co.'s claims that a tour of the Upper Big Branch Mine could hurt a probe into the blast there, revealing that Massey initially requested a tour but backed out of attending.

Responding to Massey's accusations that allowing “nontechnical political operatives” into the mine could damage evidence, the MSHA said Thursday that the tour was arranged at the energy company's behest.
