Law360, New York (July 12, 2010, 7:43 PM EDT) -- Although environmental and employment litigation jumped between the second quarter of 2009 and the same period this year, the overall number of new filings held steady, leaving observers waiting for growth that would signal a return to prerecession levels of legal work.

The number of new civil suits filed in U.S. district courts rose a modest 2.33 percent to 70,684 in the second quarter of 2010, up from 65,810 filings in the same period in 2009, according to data compiled by Law360 from federal court dockets....
