GOP Forces Delay In Senate Panel Vote On Kagan

Law360, New York (July 13, 2010, 11:35 AM EDT) -- Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., on Tuesday granted Republicans' request to push back a committee vote on U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, but vowed to move ahead with a vote on July 20 in hopes of bringing Kagan's nomination to the Senate floor by August.

Judiciary Committee ranking member Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., requested the weeklong delay during an executive meeting of the panel Tuesday.
